PaintCareCreating a circular economy for leftover paintProudly led by the British Coatings Federation, PaintCare aims to create a circular economy for leftover decorative paint in the UK, increasing the re-use or re-manufacture rate from just 2% today to 75% by 2030. This is because an estimated 55 million litres of waste decorative paint are generated in the UK each year. Most of it finds its way into the domestic waste stream; it then either goes into landfill or gets separated out and disposed of as hazardous waste at considerable cost to local authorities. Only 2% of leftover paint is recycled todayThere are over 1,000 potential collection points for paint, yet only 1 in 3 HWRCs accept liquid paint currently "Every year, 55 million litres of paint leftover from DIY and professional painting projects are sent to landfill or incineration in the UK. PaintCare will provide a national scheme for the collection, remanufacture and recycle of the majority of this leftover paint avoiding landfill and incineration, reducing the environmental impact and bringing valuable resources back into use -a circular economy for left over paint" Dr Steve Snaith, BCF Consultant How will it work?1. Consumers/painters take their leftover paint to their local HWRC or participating retailer/merchant, where it is collected in dedicated storage areas
