BCF blog - Creating a network of coatings industry ambassadors

22 July 2020

I recently joined the BCF as the new Senior Marketing Executive. There’s been a huge amount to learn about the coatings, printing inks and wallcovering industries, and I’m excited for all the opportunities ahead.

In my first week I attended an online training session which aims to create a network of Coatings Ambassadors. The programme was created in partnership with the Surface Coatings Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the PRA and delivered by Cogent Skills. It was brilliant to engage with people from a multitude of organisations and in a wide range of roles. Having ran this as an online session, there were attendees from across the UK as well as Brazil and the USA, showing the potential to create a worldwide network.

Coming from a different sector, it was interesting to see how the programme can make a real difference to the industry. There is a shortage of skilled staff and an ageing workforce, so it’s important that we encourage the next generation to understand the opportunities and potential available. In support of this, the BCF created the Coatings Careers Hub, which is an online forum showing vacancies and careers resources. If you would like to find out more about the Coatings Careers Hub, click here.

Following this training session, I’m looking forward to putting the skills I learnt into practice once schools are officially open again. In terms of my role at the BCF, it’s been great to hit the ground running and learn more about the industry.
